Lakota Dreams Press Release
February 15, 2010
Andy Greenwood announces the publication of his fourth novel entitled Lakota Dreams. His previous novels, the Random Sample detective trilogy, were published in successive years beginning in 2006, and were very successful -- no other self-published author in Texas has sold as many fiction novels as has Greenwood. He has also been recognized with two national writing awards.
Lakota Dreams is a major departure from his previous writing. The novel is long (over 640 pages), and is a post-civil war frontier adventure and revision of history. It tells the story about a young man, Nate Henderson, whose dreams evolve as he experiences life in the Dakota Territory. Clarion ForeWord Reviews said the novel was “well-researched, teeming with details both of white settler life during the 1870s and the lives of the Sioux during that time. The novel picks up steam once Nate is among the Sioux and the alternate history adventure begins in earnest. Readers may enjoy an original take on this historical period.” The author was especially gratified that the review by a nationally known company added, “Greenwood writes about Native Americans without exoticizing or infantilizing them. The book’s modern sensitivity is noticeable and welcome, but not intrusive.”
Greenwood, a native of Houston, uses his background in marketing research and advertising to support his writing career. Before beginning his novels, he researches the genre, both its avid readers and his competition (other authors in those genres) and uses those findings to guide the structure and themes of his stories. After a book is published, he researches his readers to evaluate its strengths and weaknesses in order to obtain directions for his future writing. As a self-published author without an agent or a PR firm, Greenwood relies on his own marketing experience to distribute his novels and to organize and schedule books signings, book club events, speaking engagements, and other activities designed to promote book sales.
While Greenwood aspires to be a nationally famous author and to have his writings form the basis for film or television productions, he says his primary motivation for writing is, “simply to create stories that entertain readers -- stories that include likeable characters, excitement, suspense and a little romance. I believe Lakota Dreams is that kind of story.”
Greenwood is currently well underway writing his fifth novel, a Cold War murder mystery. It is another piece of fiction and is based on his service in the U.S. Navy when he was involved in tracking Soviet submarines, and during the time when he also served as the base legal officer. The novel is due to be published at the end of this year.
